control test endows our Transformer with operational reliability and

intermediary and final inspection procedure which comprise of a large
number of test in accordance with National standard like IS:2026 BS-171
and IEC-76 using precision grade instruments of 0.5 accuracy class. We
provide all test reports to the client along with the delivery of their
transformers.

Manufacturing Process
At MAHENDRA each and every component used in a transformer undergoes
series of stringent checks and controls at each stage of manufacture.
And it is ensured that strict technical and qualitative specifications
are adhered to each one of them.
Utmost care is taken while manufacturing and assembling every
components of a Transformer. The main process lines that we follow to
manufacture transformers are enlisted below:
Core: The core is constructed from lamination of imported
cold rolled, grain oriented, low loss electrical sheet steel. The cores
are assembled in jigs prior to tapping and clamping in a manner that
reduces vibration noise to a minimum individual stamping are coated on
both sides with an insulating varnish which is both oil and heat
resistant and the complete core is connected to the clamp to ensure
that is is effectively earthed. The core legs are surely bound with
heavy duty insulating tape and the yokes are firmly clamped between
folded steel channels. Top & Bottom clamps are secured to each
other by means of tie rod, which serves the duel purpose of securing to
the clamps when the core and windings are lifted. This prevents any
tensile stress being setup in the core legs, which could adversely
affects the iron losses.
Winding: Transformer windings or "Coils are designed to meet
three fundamental requirement, mechanical, thermal and electrical. They
are cylindrical in shape and are wound of concentrically, Both HV &
LV windings are wound with adequate brazing and securing tapes in order
to achieve a strong and self-supporting structure.
Inter layer ducts are provide to ensure low temperature gradient
between windings and oil, and thus, any hot spot temperature is kept to
a minimum. This ensures that the rate of insulation deterioration is
minimized and high life expectancy is achieved.
Winding Connections: Tapping and phase lead are run in paper
covered conductors, the phase leads being separate from the tapping
leads by adequate barriers. These tubes area rigidly brazed to ensure
that required clearance from coil to tank is being maintained. LV
Leads, larger in cross-section, are generally sufficient robust, but
where necessary.
Tank Construction: All tank are made from mild steel of
adequate thickness with either corrugated wall panel type radiators or
pressed steel fin/cooling tube for heat dissipation. All tanks are
checked by magnaflux, ultraviolet ray die penetrating system to ensure
that there is absolutely no leakage from any part of the tank.
Quality Finish on Tanks Through the Use Of Shot Blasting Technology: Tanks
are shot blasted to remove mill and welding scale and then a primer
coat is immediately applied to the exterior to eliminate rust formation.
After priming, all tanks receive a coat of intermediate paint and after
pressure testing, they receive a final coast of high gloss paint
applied by spray. This ensures high coverage helping to combat
corrosion in inaccessible place.
Insulation and Impregnation: The principal component of
insulation is insulating pre-compressed press board. The component like
rings, ducts dovetailed spacer; blocks etc. are put under compressing
along with the coil assembly for pre-shrinking. The slight recovery in
dimension after the pre-shrinking is compensated by providing
additional insulation. This reduces the probability of coils getting
loose during operation and also minimize the failure due to short
circuit forces.
Short Circuit Capability: In order to prevent deformation under
short-circuit forces, solid insulation end block and ring are used,
Winding are compressed under top and bottom clamping members with the
help of tie rods. The axial end thrust under fault conditions is
minimized by the suitable balance of the ampere-turns over the length
of windings. In case of bigger transformers, the HV tapping leads are
taken out form two positions to balance the short-circuit forces in a
much better way.
